Secure and private VPN with a strong free tier.

I got Proton VPN for privacy, which it does well. However, it's a bit hit-or-miss for unblocking streaming services. Sometimes Netflix works, sometimes it doesn't. Their 'NetShield' ad blocker is also okay but not as effective as a dedicated browser extension. It's a security-first VPN, not a streaming-first one.

Coming from the same team as Proton Mail, I have a high degree of trust in their privacy practices. The VPN is fast, especially with the WireGuard protocol, and the 'Secure Core' feature that routes traffic through multiple countries gives me extra peace of mind. The apps are open-source and have been audited. It's a premium product with a price to match, but worth it for security.

Proton's free tier is a class above the rest. There's no data limit, which is unheard of. It's not as fast as the paid version and has fewer server locations, but it's secure and doesn't sell your data. It's the only free VPN I would ever recommend to family and friends. A great way to try out the service before committing.
