The learning curve for GA4 is real. But once you embrace the event-based model and learn how to use Explorations, it's much more flexible than the old GA. The ability to track custom user journeys and build funnels on the fly is powerful. The BigQuery integration is also a game-changer for deep analysis.

I've used Google Analytics for a decade, and the forced switch to GA4 has been a disaster. The interface is completely unintuitive. Basic reports that took two clicks in Universal Analytics now require building a custom 'Exploration'. It feels like a tool built by engineers for engineers, not for marketers. I miss the old version.

GA4 is okay for high-level traffic trends, but I find myself trusting it less and less. The data often doesn't match my server logs or other analytics tools. Data sampling kicks in very early, making reports unreliable. For a small blog it's fine, but for a serious business, I'm exploring paid alternatives like Plausible or Fathom.
