I keep Facebook mainly for local groups and Marketplace. It’s still the easiest way to coordinate events with non-techy family. But every time a new privacy-policy update hits the news, I’m reminded that my data has probably been harvested ten different ways already. I’ve locked down my profile as much as possible, but trust is low.

Recent changes around how Meta uses content for AI training finally pushed me over the edge. The opt-out mechanisms are confusing at best, and it feels like they assume consent by default. I don’t want my private messages or photos feeding black-box models. I’m in the process of deleting my account and asking friends to move to other platforms.

My feed is mostly ads, Reels I don’t care about, and posts from strangers in groups I barely use. Seeing content from actual friends requires digging. I understand they need to monetize, but the experience feels noisy and low quality now. If it weren’t for a few essential groups, I’d delete my account.
