Private messaging and calls with strong end‑to‑end encryption.

In an age of data harvesting, Signal is a breath of fresh air. It's end-to-end encrypted by default, open-source, and run by a non-profit. It does one thing—secure messaging—and it does it perfectly. The voice and video call quality is also excellent. I've moved all my important conversations here.

It's rock-solid for secure communication. However, it lacks some of the 'fun' features of WhatsApp or Telegram, like animated stickers, channels, or extensive formatting options. It's a utility, not a social network, which is both a pro and a con. The desktop app is also very reliable.

I love Signal for its privacy, but the recent push to usernames instead of phone numbers has been confusing for my non-technical contacts. The implementation felt a bit clunky. I understand the goal, but it added a layer of friction to what was a very simple app. Still the best option for privacy, but not as simple as it used to be.
